Aïcha’s life changed forever when she was only 8 years old. Within a short period of time, she lost both of her parents, leaving her suddenly without the love, protection, and security every child deserves. What was once a stable childhood was replaced by uncertainty, grief, and silence.
Today, Aïcha lives with her maternal aunt in Abomey-Calavi. Her aunt is a small market vendor who survives on irregular daily earnings, often barely enough to provide food for the household. She is already responsible for four other children, all of whom depend on her limited income. Despite her deep affection for Aïcha and her strong desire to help her succeed, the financial burden is overwhelming.
There are days when the family must choose between basic necessities and school-related expenses. Uniforms, notebooks, exam fees small things for many families have become major obstacles. Without external support, Aïcha’s education is constantly at risk, not because of a lack of will, but because of poverty beyond her control.
